Tehran, Iran – In a recent interview, an Al Mayadeen correspondent stationed in Tehran disclosed crucial information regarding the United States’ ongoing military campaign against Iran. According to the correspondent, the scope of the American strikes extends far beyond traditional military targets, instead focusing on strategic economic areas and facilities.
“It is essential to note that the US attacks are not limited to military bases and facilities,” the correspondent stated. “American forces are deliberately targeting Iran’s critical economic infrastructure, including vital oil refineries, major ports, and industrial centers. This aggressive military strategy serves to cripple the Iranian economy and undermine the country’s ability to respond to these attacks effectively.”
The correspondent pointed out that Iran has faced a significant decline in its foreign currency reserves and oil exports due to the American sanctions imposed since 2018. These economic pressures have severely limited the country’s ability to respond to military aggression.
“This is precisely why the US is targeting economic facilities in addition to military sites,” the correspondent emphasized. “Washington seeks to deal a decisive blow to Iran’s economy and limit the regime’s ability to maintain a robust military defense system.”
When asked about the significance of targeting economic areas, the Al Mayadeen correspondent underscored that economic vulnerability is a significant factor in military calculus. According to the correspondent, weakening the Iranian economy reduces its capacity for resistance and increases its susceptibility to external pressures.
“This strategy is reminiscent of the US policy during the Gulf War, when Washington targeted economic interests to cripple the Iraqi economy,” the correspondent observed. “The aim is to erode the Iranian regime’s power base, limit its military modernization, and ultimately undermine its resistance to US aggression.”
In the context of the ongoing conflict, the Iranian government has consistently emphasized the need for international cooperation to prevent a full-scale US-Iranian war. However, the latest developments indicate a heightened level of American military aggression against Iranian targets, including strategic economic installations.
The situation on the ground remains tense, with reports of increased US troop deployments to the region and heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington. As tensions escalate, the international community is closely watching the developments, anxious about the potential consequences of a further deterioration in US-Iran relations.
