Sana’a, Yemen – The already volatile situation in Yemen has taken another turn for the worse as tribes from across northern Yemen have begun mobilizing in response to the latest developments in the ongoing conflict with the Houthi movement. According to sources, tribal groups opposing the Houthi movement in the Bani Nof, al-Marazik, and al-Dhuwai regions have started to move towards areas controlled by the Houthis in what can only be described as an escalation of the tribal rivalries in Yemen.
The mobilization comes after pro-Houthi tribes from the Bani Nof coalition in al-Jawf Governorate moved into the area, sparking tensions with local tribes who have historically been opposed to the Houthi movement. The Bani Nof coalition, which is a loose alliance of tribes that have long been rivals to the Houthi movement, was quick to mobilize in the face of the perceived threat.
“It’s a very delicate situation,” said an analyst based in Sana’a. “These tribal groups have long been rivals, and their mobilization is likely to lead to further conflict in the region.”
The Houthis have controlled much of northern Yemen since 2015, when they seized control of the capital city of Sana’a. Since then, they have continued to fight various tribal groups and the Yemeni government, which has been in exile since 2015.
“This is not just a tribal conflict,” said a local resident who wished to remain anonymous. “It’s a power struggle between different groups vying for control of the country.”
The mobilization has left many in the region on edge, as tensions between the different tribes and groups continue to escalate. The situation is further complicated by the presence of foreign powers, including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, who have been supporting the Hadi government in exile.
The international community has called for calm and restraint in the face of the escalating crisis in Yemen. However, it remains to be seen whether their calls will be heeded, given the entrenched positions of the different parties in the conflict.
As the situation continues to deteriorate, many in Yemen are left wondering what the future holds for the war-torn country. One thing is certain: the tribal rivalries in Yemen show no signs of abating, and the conflict is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
In the face of the growing crisis, the United Nations has called for a cessation of hostilities and the resumption of peace talks between the warring parties. However, with no clear end in sight to the conflict, Yemen’s future remains shrouded in uncertainty.
The ongoing conflict in Yemen is yet another example of the complexities and challenges of the region’s tribal politics. As tensions continue to escalate, it remains to be seen whether the international community can broker a peace deal that addresses the underlying issues driving the conflict.
