‘TENSIONS RISE AS ISRAEL CONTINUES AERIAL SURVEILLANCE OVER LEBANON’

Beirut, Lebanon – Reports have emerged of increased Israeli drone activity over southern Lebanon, with sightings also recorded over the capital city Beirut and its suburbs. This development has heightened tensions in the region, with many speculating on the motivations behind this escalation.

According to eyewitnesses, Israeli drones were spotted flying over various locations in southern Lebanon, including the port city of Tyre and the southern suburbs of Beirut. The sightings were reported by local residents who claimed that the drones were hovering at low altitudes, causing widespread concern.

The Lebanese army has confirmed that they have detected Israeli drones in their airspace, but stated that they have not taken any action to intercept them, citing a policy of non-engagement with Israeli military assets.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has not publicly commented on the drone sightings, but experts believe that the increased activity could be related to ongoing tensions between Israel and Lebanon over the disputed Shebaa Farms region.

The Shebaa Farms are a disputed territory located at the border of Lebanon and Israel, and have been a point of contention between the two countries since the 2000 withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon. The territory is considered by Lebanon to be part of its own territory, but is also claimed by Israel.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has expressed concern over the potential threat posed by the increased Israeli drone activity to civilians in southern Lebanon and Beirut. In a statement, HRW called on Israel to clarify its intentions and to ensure that its military operations do not put civilians at risk.

The increased Israeli drone activity has also been met with criticism from local residents, who argue that it represents a major escalation in the already tense relationship between Israel and Lebanon.

“This is a clear escalation of Israeli aggression against Lebanon,” said Ghassan Salameh, a resident of Beirut. “We are concerned about the potential threat posed by these drones and the impact it could have on civilians in the area.”

The United Nations has called on both Israel and Lebanon to exercise restraint and to engage in diplomatic efforts to resolve their differences.

As tensions continue to rise, it remains to be seen what the ultimate implications of this increased Israeli drone activity will be for the region.
